Why does HttpClient.getAsync return Task and not Promise?

I have the following line of code:

let http = new HttpClient();

let response = await http.getAsync('');

This works fine, but it seems rather odd to me to use await here.

My understanding is that getAsync() returns a Task object. However, I have seen people use something like

return http.getAsync('')

.toPromise();

What is the point of having the await keyword in there? I would have expected toPromise() to work exactly the same way as getAsync(). Does it?

await means:

Wait for Task

getAsync returns Task. toPromise does not make much sense.
