How Did It All Start?
Becoming Uncle Bob
It was October 2019, I know tough to remember a time before a global pandemic, but indulge me for a moment. My faithful companion, Ghost, and I were in the process of moving across the country, Raleigh to San Francisco, to begin a career in field sales! This was a very exciting time, as it was a brand new city with a brand new organization, and on that I had wanted to work for since graduating college many years ago!
Fast forward, a few months go by; some trainings here, few internal meetings there, and I'm officially ready to start meeting my customers face-to-face (it was Feb 2020) and building rapport. Then the shutdown, California was proactive being the state to declare a lockdown to slow the spread. While I won't go into too much detail here, we all know how this turned out; chaos, fear, uproar, you name it, we all experienced it.
Here I was stuck between a rock and a hard place; a brand new job, in a brand city, where I knew absolutely no one. It was a fight or flight to survive in sales! What I needed to do was completely rebrand myself in order to be more marketable, and in turn, market my portfolio. The rebranding had to be creative, engaging, funny (because why not?), and educational all while articulating value to our customer's need.
From one night creating a hashtag based on British slang, #bobsyouruncle was born. After weeks of product-themed posts on LinkedIn, and some major networking, a brand was reborn. This has truly been a humbling experience, and now I believe it's time to expand my brand beyond LinkedIn. Therefore, I would like to personally welcome you to Uncle Bob's review.
